Hello, Cricket Clinic Parents and Participants!

I wanted to let you all know how much we appreciated your participation and your assistance with the 2011 India House Youth Cricket Clinic. At the end of the year, it's rewarding for me to look back and all we've accomplished. We never imagined we'd see so many young cricketers playing this year! Much of our success is due to you, the parents, who have faithfully brought your young men to the ground each weekend for our sessions.

We hope to be contacting you very soon with plans for 2012. We look forward to an even better Cricket Clinic next year!

I hope the holidays are blessed for each and every one of you.

We had a lot of fun playing cricket this past weekend, though we were missing several of our cricketers! Because we didn't have a full group of players in either session, we played an exciting double-wicket match with four teams, each team batting for three overs.

In the Friday session, Smit and Tilak won with 25 runs. Tilak played especially well, scoring 15. Here are the results for each team:

  • Smit/Tilak -- 25 runs
  • Pujan/Rohil -- 18 runs
  • Sagar/Manav -- 18 runs
  • Dhruv/Akash -- 15 runs

In the Sunday session, Rishabh and Aditya S. won the match with 18 runs. Here are the results for each team:

  • Rishabh/Aditya S. -- 18 runs
  • Anuj/Sam -- 13 runs
  • Dhruv/Parth -- 9 runs
  • Pawan/Sidd -- 8 runs

We look forward to seeing all of our cricketers this weekend! Again, as a reminder, here's the list of cricketers scheduled to play on each day:

It was hot this past weekend, but still a great weekend for cricket at the India House Youth Cricket Clinic.

After two weeks of focusing on making good batting decisions, this week we focused on the bowling action. Coach Mahendra and Coach Ranjit worked with each of the cricketers on the fundamentals of sound bowling technique, then we put that practice into action playing a friendly match.

Friday Evening

Friday evening's match was unique in that the first four batsmen on Coach Curt's team were all out bowled for just one run among them. Manav and Parth came in and formed a great fifth wicket partnership, settling the team down for three overs and rebuilding the side. Pujan and Rishabh came back in the last over and added runs, pushing the total to 30. But Coach Ranjit's team was just too strong, finishing the game off in four overs.

Best Performances -- Coach Ranjit's Team
Sagar took 1 wicket for 17 runs and Smit took 1 wicket for just 3 runs. But the best bowling performance on Coach Ranjit's team goes to Tilak -- 1-0-4-2. On the batting side, Tilak was 12 not out and Sagar was 5 not out.

Best Performances -- Coach Curt's Team
Pujan scores 13 with the bat, but he also executed an exceptional throw from midwicket to run out Aman. On the bowling side, four bowlers took a wicket: Akash, Parth, Rishabh, and Pujan.

Sunday Morning

Sunday's match was a hotly-contested duel between Coach Curt and Coach Mahendra's teams. Coach Mahendra's side batted first, but they were restricted to just 43 runs in 8 overs by a great bowling attack, with each bowler bowling a tight line and good length. Coach Curt's team made their target of 44 in 6.2 overs.

Best Performances -- Coach Mahendra's Team
Aditya S. was 10 not out, collecting ones and two to go along with a boundary four that kept his team in the game. Pawan scored 6 before being run out by an excellent throw from Sidd. On the bowling side, Aditya S. and Udai both took two wickets in their three overs, while Dhruv was economical in his two overs, conceding 14 runs.

Best Performances -- Coach Curt's Team
The best batting performance of the weekend was, by far, Anuj's performance on Sunday morning. Anuj was 22 not out -- 20 of which came from well-placed boundary shots. Yash B. was 7 not out, batting a long innings and providing a stable foundation for his team. On the bowling side, every bowler performed well: Anuj 2-0-10-0, Yash B. 2-0-9-1, Daksh 1-0-6-1, Sidd 2-0-12-1, and Rohil 1-0-6-0.

I have uploaded a series of videos from Coach Bob Woolmer on proper bowling technique. Click on the "Bowling" tab at the top to view them. These videos will reinforce what we covered this weekend at the clinic. If anyone has any questions, please ask them this weekend -- we'll be happy to help.

We started our 2011 Summer Youth Cricket Clinic on Friday, with 18 cricketers taking part. Each player practiced their batting for two overs, then worked on bowling and fielding. It was good to see everyone back out on the ground -- and especially nice to see new cricketers joining our group!

Sunday's session had 12 cricketers -- and plenty of ants! Seems the ants are suffering from this dry weather as much as we are -- they found their way to the bags, bats, and ice chest. Hopefully, today's rain will convince them to go away!

We will continue the Summer Clinic this Friday at 6pm. Since our group is so large -- we expect 22-24 young men by the time everyone is able to attend -- we've decided to divide into two groups. One group will practice on Fridays, the other group on Sundays. We do plan to get all the players back together near the end of August for a match. More details on that will follow.

Thanks to all parents and cricketers for their participation! Without you, this would not be possible!

The senior teams for the Challengers and Warriors played a 10-over match on Sunday morning, with the result being a tie.

The Warriors batted first, accumulating 74 runs in their innings. Pujan scored 16 not out, including a four and a six. Sagar contributed seven runs, as did Yash, with Akil scoring six. The Warriors score 23 runs in the last two overs to set a target of 75 for the Challengers. The Challengers' bowling attack featured the Parekh brothers -- Rishabh and Parth each bowled one over, with Rishabh conceding just 1 run and taking one wicket in his over. Parth took two wickets for just four runs. An excellent performance from Sidd as well for the Challengers, taking two wickets for six runs.

With a target of 75 runs, the Challengers had two batsmen with good scores -- Shiven scored 11 not out and Rishabh scored 9 not out. Rishabh's six off of Akash sparked the Challengers' offense and drew them close to the win.

With three balls left in the match, the Challengers needed three runs to win. Sidd hit a two, bringing the scores level. Sidd again faced Praneel with just two balls left and one run to win. But Praneel took his wicket (by Deepankar's great catch in the outfield) to take the match down to the last ball. The new batsman was unable to score off of the last ball, and the two teams ended the match tied.

Pujan was the best bowler for the Warriors -- taking two wickets in two overs for 11 runs. Sonu, Praneel, and Kishan also took wickets for the Warriors.

For his 16 not out batting and his 2-0-11-2 bowling, Pujan was named Man of the Match.

We're so proud of the way all these young cricketers played. They are a joy to watch and to coach.

Coach Ranjit discusses the team plan with the Warriors.

We had a great match on Sunday morning, playing 8 overs between the two junior teams for the Challengers and the Warriors. The Challengers crossed the line on the last ball, defeating the Warriors by two wickets.

The bowling in the match was excellent -- in fact, the bowlers made it very difficult for the batsmen to score. For the Challengers, Smit scored 6 runs and Puneet scored 5. Dhruv led the Warriors with 4 runs.

Many of our young bowlers turned in great performances. Aditya led all bowlers with totals of 2-0-9-2. Smit (1-0-4-1) and Parth (2-0-8-0) also bowled a tight line, restricting the Warriors to 38 runs.

The Warriors' bowling attack was formidable as well, with Sonu (2-0-9-1), Rikhil (2-0-8-1), and Praneel (1-0-8-1) leading the way.

Coach Mahendra plans a strategy with the Warriors.

This Sunday, the senior teams for the Warriors and Challengers face off in a 10-over match. We expect another exciting match!
